Social Work (SSW) Student Services Team has an outstanding
opportunity for a Permanent Academic Advisor, a professional staff
appointment.Telework schedule: The successful candidate must be
able to be on-site in the School of Social Work building 4 days per
week. There may be more opportunity for remote after training. They
also must be available to work some evenings (average 1-2
times/month, more during spring quarter) and weekends (1-2
times/year.)DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Academic Advising and
Student Support (60%)Serve as an advisor/counselor on issues
concerning progress and completion through the program components
and University policies.Inform and advise students on MSW Program
and Graduate School policies and procedures.Respond to student
inquiries within 3 business days by email, phone, in-person, and
Zoom.Provide drop-in advising on a regular basis.Advise students
about complex program requirements based on when they entered, what
program they are in, and requirements they have completed.Advise
students about classes and registration.Advise students on personal
challenges and how it relates to their academic progress and plan
of study.Create individual, revised plans of study when a student
needs to take leave from the program.Reach out proactively to
students who are struggling to work through what their options are
and what supports might be helpful.Work closely with SSW Admissions
to coordinate communications to incoming MSW students.Act as lead
advisor for a cohort of students.Make referrals to appropriate
campus resources when necessary.Inform students on career and
professional development opportunities.Assist students with
financial and funding resources as well as grant opportunities
within the University and through external agencies.Provide
information by workshop or presentation, to groups of incoming and
continuing students.Answer questions and manage onboarding of new
students into the program.Create and maintain content on both the
student services website and the Canvas sites to provide timely and
accurate information to students.Provide support and direction to
up to 15 student groups within the School of Social WorkProgram
Development and Management and Academic Operations (40%)Work
closely with the Director of Student Services and the SSW Tech unit
to lead implementation of the roll-out of Element 451 CRM,
including importing data, setting up workflows, and formatting the
first set of communications.Create a training manual and train
others in student services to be able to do the communications and
basic functions of E451.Provide consistent management of E451
(regular imports, de-duplicating records, etc.)Develops social,
professional, and educational programming and partner with UW and
community resources to meet the needs of incoming and enrolled
students, including but not limited to mental health resources,
financial literacy, professional development and others.Helps to
manage program procedures/documentation, including creating
documentation for tasks.Works as part of the student services team
to manage catering, venue support, publications, and other needs
for MSW and BASW events and programs including but not limited to
graduations and new student orientations.Additional duties as
required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSBachelor's Degree in Social Work,
Social Welfare, Sociology, Student Services or a related field.Two
years of experience in academic counseling, counseling, case
management or comparable experience. Equivalent
education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications
except when there are legal requirements, such as a
license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSProject
management skills.Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal
communication skills to create and edit written/online
materials.Excellent customer service skills and the ability to
establish and promote a welcoming atmosphere.Ability to relate
effectively with a diverse range of people, including diversity in
sex, age, class, race, ethnicity, national origin, religious
affiliation (or lack thereof), immigration status, disability
status, gender identity or sexual orientation.Experience working
with customer relationship management (CRM) applications. .Fluency
in Microsoft Office Suite, especially excel, and computerized
record-keeping systems.Strong organizational skills to include
efficiently managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced,
team-based environment.Ability to work with highly sensitive and
confidential information.Very strong attention to details in both
written form and on project management.Demonstrated problem-solving
and systems design/improvement experience in complex
systems.Experience working in a team environment under general
rather than close supervision.Demonstrated excellent judgment in
sensitive situations.Demonstrated ability to work independently,
take initiative. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSMasters degree in Social
Work, Counseling, Education, or another related field.Experience in
developing and administering programs for student recruitment,
support and retention, such as academic tutoring, study skills,
personal and career counseling, and other academic
assistance.Experience working in higher education.Familiarity and
comfortability with integrating data to drive decision making for
resources and supports for students.Experience with event planning,
especially large-scale events.Knowledge of UW degree
requirements.Experience with Element 451 CRM.Knowledge of UW
administrative systems such as SDB, EARS, DARS, MyGrad, and BI
Portal/EDW.Experience and comfort in using software programs such
Canvas, WordPress, Blogger, Screen capturing software and/or
similar applications. CONDITITONS OF EMPLOYMENTAbility to lift 30
lbs.Set up rooms for events, including setting up tables, chairs,
moving cases of soda, etc.Availability to work some evenings
(average 1-2 times/month, more during spring quarter) and weekends
